Firefox 3

FileBuffer News 3 Comments »

Using FireFox? Make sure you upgrade to version 3.0.

Among numerous changes Mozilla completely refined it’s JavaScript engine, making dynamic feature rich applications (FileBuffer 4 included) significantly faster and glitch free.

Every other FireFox advantage you’re used to has been improved as well, and the very sweet package was spiced up with new and useful features such as:
- One click bookmarks
- New address/history/bookmark bar, all in one
- Visual feedback for EV SSL certificates

If you didn’t have a chance to try out FireFox this is a great chance to do so:

The launch of FireFox 3 was accompanied by a “Download Day” promotional action. Everyone who participated knows that huge expectation and interest resulted in a massive strain on Mozilla’s download mirrors, downloads had to be suspended for a period of time and throttled shortly after. While I did manage to get my copy during the spike I refrained from posting until now, you should be able to download without any limits at this time.

Usage limits

Dear users,

In order to celebrate the upcoming FileBuffer 4, hosting time limit has been removed and max file upload size has been increased to 100MB!

This means that you can now:
- Upload files up to 100MB in size
- Uploaded files never expire (unless you set any limits on them)

We hope you enjoy these changes,
FileBuffer Team

New logo

New software, new design, new logotype.

This is the logo FileBuffer 4 will be using, all coments are welcome.
The site will follow the same, dark, feature rich design.

You can also expect a lot of eyecandy, but with emphasis on usability, availability and ergonomics, site elements are positioned in a natural “reading style” matter with carefully tweaked typography.

Mail Problems

FileBuffer News No Comments »

Dear users,

If you have tried to contact us and did not receive a reply, please re-send your e-mail.

Last week a problem occurred with one of the blacklist servers that FileBuffer uses for spam protection, unfortunately most messages were flagged 100% positive for spam and were therefore completely rejected by our mail server, the issue has been resolved. File Abuse reports are handled by a separate system and have not been affected.

Sincere apologies,
FB Team

Progress update

FileBuffer News 2 Comments »

I apologize for this gap in my publications, I didn’t have much time to mend the new FB’s development enviroment, and I wanted to make sure that all the free time I did have went towards it.

As mentioned, the development environment for the new FileBuffer is in place, and the progress is on schedule. The first round of beta-testers will be enrolled within a month, and I expect the site in public beta by the end of summer.

That’s not all that’s happened since I last posted though, FileBuffer was approved by The Good Net Guide, and therefore awarded the GNG logo. I would like to thank all the good people in GNG for discovering and recognizing our little corner of the Internet.

Happy downloading guys, I’ll keep you posted (honest)! :)

FileBuffer is back online

FileBuffer News 4 Comments »

After a few hours of downtime, the complete server was reinstalled. During the procedure your files were encrypted and traveled over 13800 Kilometers (8600 Miles!) across Atlantic ocean all the way to Europe and back to USA. With a fresh environment we are able to continue developing new, FileBuffer4, with all of it’s features!

What does this mean to you?
Well already now you’ll be able to experience:
- faster downloads
- a more responsive and secure interface

… And naturally FileBuffer Exchange (FileBuffer4) after the development is complete.

Keep tuned!

Diggs and Referers

FileBuffer News No Comments »

Attention users and downloaders:

How do you feel about adding the “Digg” button to the download page, as well as listing 5 top referring sites that link to the file?
Do you believe this would violate your privacy, considering that the data would be visible only on the specific download page: to the users you gave the download link to?
Would you like to be able to add your own custom comments and links instead?

We need your feedback on this, thank you!

Downtime rescheduled

FileBuffer News No Comments »

Dear users,
Previously announced downtime has been rescheduled to Feb. 12th - Feb. 15th.

The complete service unavailability should not exceed 18 hours, thank your for understanding.

“Server will undergo a complete re-install, along with some tweaks necessary for the new software I’m developing, however all of the uploaded files will be left intact thanks to my dear colleague Filip Penezic and some clever cross-server-cross-network backing up (any user-set time limits will keep running though, and no worries about security because, as you know, files uploaded to FileBuffer are encrypted).

I’ll also have to tweak the DNS server so some of you might experience problems accessing the server after the downtime , depending on how frequently your ISPs refresh their domain lists, nothing to worry about, should any problems appear they’ll be resolved swiftly.”

Maintenance next week

FileBuffer will be down from Feb 7th to Feb 9th due to some scheduled maintenance.

MoneyBookers.com Donations

FileBuffer News No Comments »

Some of you e-mailed me and suggested other options for sending donations and helping the site. I greatly appreciate the effort everyone keeps displaying, I really do. Out of all alternatives that came across my mind the most valid one was MoneyBookers. I already had a MoneyBookers account and I have had it for a long time (with both home address and cell phone # already verified, go figure).

I understand that not many people use MoneyBookers unlike PayPal, and I don’t expect you to register there just to send me a donation, but if by any chance you already have a MoneyBookers account and also want to help me out these are my registered e-mail addresses: mail2.gif and recently added: mail1.gif (these are images). I am also reachable on both of those addresses for all of your questions and comments.

Thank you again, I’ll keep the blog updated with any news regarding FileBuffer.
